VILES ARBORETUM TO HOLD 5K RUN FOR THE TREES RACE IN SEPTEMBER ~ Mark your calendars and register early for the officially timed and sanctioned September 13th. What a terrific way to support the Arboretum while participating in what is sure to be the best fall time run in Maine! Walkers are also welcome. Day care will be provided with nature activities for the kiddies while mom and dad take the 5K challenge. Run for the Trees is in memory of Nathaniel Chauncy MacConnell. Nathaniel was born and raised in Portland, Maine, the eldest child of Chip and Rebecca MacConnell, who were co-owners of the well known pub, The Great Lost Bear. He was a senior at Deering High School at the time of his untimely death in a very tragic accident on Tukey’s Bridge in Portland on 13 January 2002, which also took the lives of Crystal Young and Jason Carr. Nathaniel loved Maine and he loved the outdoors so having a run in his memory at the Viles Arboretum is fitting.
